Overview
Turning a Specialised Scientific Proposition Into a Recognisable Visual Identity
CMC-AI operates at the intersection of two highly technical worlds: pharmaceutical science and artificial intelligence. Its platform is designed to help CMC scientists navigate complex development processes, reduce operational burden, and improve efficiency across different stages of drug development.
By combining logo design, visual direction, digital exploration and brand application, the identity works as both a brand foundation and a digital asset. It had to communicate more than technology: trust, intelligence, precision and scientific progress.
02
Challenge
Make Complex Technology Feel Clear
CMC is highly specialised, and the identity had to belong to two industries at once.
CMC is an important part of pharmaceutical development and regulatory approval, but it is also highly specialised. The brand needed to speak to people who understand the science while communicating a modern technology proposition.
What the identity had to do
- Communicate CMC-AI's positioning immediately
- Feel appropriate for pharmaceutical and CMC professionals
- Communicate AI without relying on obvious technology clichés
- Reflect the accuracy and structure CMC processes demand
- Feel like a modern technology company rather than a consultancy
- Avoid looking like a traditional pharmaceutical or laboratory brand
- Avoid looking like a generic AI startup
- Work across digital interfaces, documents and presentations
- Scale into future brand applications

Role
My Responsibilities
What I owned on this project.
Brand Exploration
Explore visual directions around AI, scientific intelligence, data, connectivity and pharmaceutical development, using ChatGPT as an ideation tool alongside the visual work.
Logo Design
Develop and refine the core CMC-AI mark, from first association through to a finished system.
Visual Research
Study the visual relationships between scientific systems and modern AI products.
Digital Prototyping
Test the identity inside digital layouts and responsive environments, refining assets in Photoshop and Figma.
04
Solution
Solution & Key Features
An identity built on one idea: complex scientific knowledge, amplified by intelligence.
Connecting CMC With AI
The mark represents the relationship between domain expertise and artificial intelligence — science, data, intelligence and decision — rather than either world on its own.
Precision
A controlled and structured visual language reflecting the accuracy expected within pharmaceutical development.
Intelligence
A technological character introduced without making the brand feel like another generic AI product.
Connection
The concept represents the relationship between scientific knowledge, data and intelligent systems.
Clarity
Complexity translated into a visual system that remains understandable and adaptable.
Digital Application
The visual system considered as part of the wider CMC-AI digital experience rather than as an isolated logo.
05
Process
Implementation Process
How the project ran, start to finish.
Understand
Start with the company. CMC-AI sits within the pharmaceutical development ecosystem, specifically addressing the complexities of Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls. Understanding the audience — CMC scientists, pharmaceutical companies, biotech teams and technical stakeholders — was critical before making visual decisions.
Explore
Explore associations around AI, science, data, pharmaceuticals, precision, connectivity and intelligence, then evaluate different visual directions before narrowing to the strongest concept.
Concept
Avoid literal visual shortcuts. Instead of combining a molecule icon with a circuit or a robot, build the identity around the broader idea of scientific intelligence and connected information.
Design
Develop the selected direction into a refined logo system. Shape, spacing, typography, proportions and visual balance considered together so the mark stays recognisable at different sizes.
Digital Testing & Refinement
Test the identity in HTML and Bootstrap CSS layouts to see how it performs inside a website and interface, then refine the presentation in Photoshop and Figma.

Turning a Technical Proposition Into a Recognisable Identity
One mark carrying a highly specialised idea.
- Understand what CMC-AI actually does
- Recognise the company across digital touchpoints
- Read the brand as scientific rather than generic
- See AI positioned as augmentation
- Find precision reflected in the visual language
- Encounter a mark that scales across media
- Meet a brand suited to pharmaceutical environments
- Grasp a complex proposition at a glance
CMC-AI is not simply about artificial intelligence. It is about applying intelligence to one of the most complex parts of bringing a pharmaceutical product to market, and the identity was designed to make that idea easier to recognise.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
The questions this project usually raises.
What was the main goal of the project?
To give CMC-AI a visual identity communicating trust, intelligence, precision and scientific progress, and to make a highly specialised proposition easier to recognise.
Who is the identity designed for?
CMC scientists, pharmaceutical companies, biotech teams and technical stakeholders. CMC-AI states that it serves both small and large pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
What does CMC stand for?
Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls. It is a critical part of pharmaceutical development and regulatory approval.
What was the main design challenge?
Finding a visual balance between pharmaceutical credibility and AI innovation without making the identity look generic.
What makes this different from a typical AI brand?
Instead of combining a molecule with a circuit, the identity was built around scientific intelligence and connected information, so it belongs in a pharmaceutical environment rather than a technology showcase.
